Many gaps remain<\/h1>\n

42 memo\u00adri\u00adal name plaques are added to the com\u00adme\u00admo\u00adra\u00adti\u00adons by name at the Memo\u00adri\u00adal for the Mur\u00adde\u00adred Jews of Wiesbaden<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

When the Memo\u00adri\u00adal for the Mur\u00adde\u00adred Jews of Wies\u00adba\u00adden was dedi\u00adca\u00adted on Janu\u00adary 27, 2011, the names of 1,507 Wies\u00adba\u00adden Jews mur\u00adde\u00adred in the Sho\u00adah were known. The car\u00adved stones on the memo\u00adri\u00adal com\u00adme\u00admo\u00adra\u00adte them indi\u00advi\u00addu\u00adal\u00adly, by name. Befo\u00adre 1933, the Jewish com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adty in Wies\u00adba\u00adden had about 3,000 mem\u00adbers. To date, the fates of about half of the Jews living in Wies\u00adba\u00adden at that time have been reconstructed.<\/p>\n

The num\u00adber of Wies\u00adba\u00adden resi\u00addents who were disen\u00adfran\u00adchised, per\u00adse\u00adcu\u00adted and mur\u00adde\u00adred by the Nazi regime becau\u00adse they were Jews remains unknown today. This is repre\u00adsen\u00adted by the num\u00ade\u00adrous blank spaces among the names on the memo\u00adri\u00adal. They show that the Nazi regime not only wan\u00adted to era\u00adse the peo\u00adp\u00adle, but also any memo\u00adry of them. The emp\u00adty spaces are to be unders\u00adtood as a sign that the memo\u00adry of the cri\u00admes of the Nazi era and their vic\u00adtims, whe\u00adther their names are known or not, must never end.<\/p>\n

In 2023, 42 new memo\u00adri\u00adal name plaques will be added to the exis\u00adting names on the Memo\u00adri\u00adal for the Mur\u00adde\u00adred Jews of Wies\u00adba\u00adden. In addi\u00adti\u00adon to the person\u2019s name, they include their birth year and the year and place of their mur\u00adder. The com\u00adme\u00admo\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon by name is sup\u00adple\u00admen\u00adted by the \u201cmemoir sheets\u201d of the Acti\u00adve Muse\u00adum Spie\u00adgel\u00adgas\u00adse for Ger\u00ad\u00adman-Jewish Histo\u00adry Wies\u00adba\u00adden, which tell the bio\u00adgra\u00adphies of the Jewish fami\u00adlies who are com\u00adme\u00admo\u00adra\u00adted on Michels\u00adberg. During their rese\u00adarch, the mem\u00adbers of the Acti\u00adve Muse\u00adum have again and again iden\u00adti\u00adfied pre\u00advious\u00adly unknown Wies\u00adba\u00adden Jews and thus con\u00adti\u00adnue to make valuable con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adti\u00adons to the per\u00adpe\u00adtua\u00adti\u00adon of the com\u00adme\u00admo\u00adra\u00adti\u00adons by name.<\/p>\n

On Febru\u00adary 14, 1945, the last Jews from Wies\u00adba\u00adden were depor\u00adted to the con\u00adcen\u00adtra\u00adti\u00adon camps. To this day, in the archi\u00adves the\u00adre con\u00adti\u00adnue to be clues to pre\u00advious\u00adly unknown bio\u00adgra\u00adphies that are inter\u00adwo\u00adven with Wies\u00adba\u00adden. The\u00adr\u00ade\u00adfo\u00adre, even after 78 years, the rese\u00adarch still can\u00adnot be con\u00adside\u00adred complete.<\/p>\n

With the publi\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon of this web\u00adsite, the Jewish com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adty of Wies\u00adba\u00adden, in coope\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon with the city archi\u00adve, is making all the names of Wies\u00adba\u00adden Jews mur\u00adde\u00adred in the Sho\u00adah that have been rese\u00adar\u00adched and com\u00adme\u00admo\u00adra\u00adted at the memo\u00adri\u00adal site available online for the first time. The ground\u00adwork for the fur\u00adther artic\u00adles on the emer\u00adgence of the Jewish com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adty, Wiesbaden\u2019s Nazi histo\u00adry and the gene\u00adsis of the memo\u00adri\u00adal is the docu\u00adment \u201cMah\u00adnung am Michels\u00adberg\u201d, published in 2017 in the second edi\u00adti\u00adon by the Stadt\u00ad\u00aden\u00adt\u00ad\u00adwick\u00ad\u00adlungs-Gesel\u00adl\u00ad\u00adschaft Wiesbaden.<\/p>\n

The web\u00adsite helps to put into con\u00adtext and under\u00adstand the Michels\u00adberg memo\u00adri\u00adal by sup\u00adple\u00admen\u00adting, updating and digi\u00adtal\u00adly publi\u00adshing the docu\u00admen\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon, naming the names of the mur\u00adde\u00adred Wies\u00adba\u00adden Jews and trans\u00adla\u00adting the web\u00adsite into seve\u00adral lan\u00adguages. For this I would like to sin\u00adce\u00adre\u00adly thank the Jewish com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adty of Wies\u00adba\u00adden, the aut\u00adhors who made their works available again, and all supporters.<\/p>\n
